A 30-year-old Nigerian national was allegedly stabbed to death by his 28-year-old girlfriend over a petty issue at their house at Southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Saturday afternoon. After fatally stabbing her boyfriend, the woman rushed him to a nearby hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding late in the night. Izzu, the deceased used to run a garment business while the woman used to run a Nigerian restaurant.
The woman Uzuma has been living in the Vipin Garden area of Uttam Nagar. Uzuma had been living in the area for the past five years while Izzu came down to Delhi six months ago.
On Saturday, Izzu and the woman Uzuma had gone out for drinks. Intoxicated, the couple got into a heated argument which further escalated when the woman went inside the kitchen, got a kitchen knife and stabbed Izzu. Following the murder, Delhi Police arrested the woman who is also a Nigerian.
Police said the deceased Izzu, ran a garments business and was in a live-in relationship with Uzuma (28). The woman ran a food stall near their house in Uttam Nagar’s D-Block. The two were in a live-in relationship for over a year and stayed at a rented house.
Investigators on Sunday said that at around 2 pm on Saturday, the couple had a fight. Police suspect the tiff was related to a financial dispute between the couple. Uzuma told police that the two fought violently and also punched and kicked one another.

A police officer said that during the scuffle, the woman picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Izzu on his left hand, which led to excessive bleeding. Police are waiting for the postmortem examination report to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police have registered a case of murder against Uzuma and have informed the Nigerian High Commission here, a police officer of South West district said.
