The 24-year-old man who allegedly shot himself at Rajiv Chowk Metro station on Thursday night, claimed on Friday that he accidentally shot himself as he was on his way to "assassinate" a person who was about to "blow up" Delhi Metro.
The man, identified as Shibesh Adhikari, turned out to be a martial arts teacher from Fatehpur Sikri in UP, said DCP (Metro) Jitender Mani, adding that Adikari is now suspected to be a mentally deranged person.
Police, however registered a case of arms act and breach of security against the man being treated at Ram Manohar lohia Hospital, where his condition is stated to be out of danger.
"During questioning, Adhikari claimed that on September 28 he received information about a man who had plans to blow up Delhi Metro on Thursday evening," said a senior police officer.
"Adhikari further claimed to have called up police control room twice to report about the input but no one took his calls, after which he took upon himself the task of assassinating the threat and procured a country made gun from an undisclosed source," said the senior officer.
When the cops grilled him hard on how he had managed to sneak inside the metro station premises at Chandni Chowk (in Yellow line of Delhi Metro) with the gun, he told them that he had no weapon with him when he was frisked at the security gate.
"He had instructed his sister to wait near the glass pane — which is around three feet high — between a customer care cabin and one of the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) gates meant only for exit and had asked her to hand over a bag once he was inside after being frisked by security personnel," said the officer.
Adhikari was headed towards Noida (in Blue line of Delhi Metro), for which he had to change train at the Rajiv Chowk metro station. Before taking the second metro, around 9.45 PM, Adhikari told police that he wanted to check his gun so he went to a relatively secluded spot within the metro station and accidentally shot himself.
Shibesh reached Delhi along with his sister to meet his father, Girdhari Pal, who is undergoing heart treatment in Sarita Vihar's Apollo Hospital. They boarded a metro train from Chandni Chowk Metro Station for Sarita Vihar Metro Station.
On reaching Rajiv Chowk, Shibesh got off the train telling his sister he will come later to the hospital. He then stepped towards gate number 3 of Rajiv Chowk and whipped a pistol from his bag and shot him at his shoulder, in a full public view. The panic gripped the metro station and the security official deployed there rushed him to the RMl hospital.
Shibesh told police that he wanted to teach them a lesson as they did not pay any heed to his repeated calls of bomb threat on the PCR. Shibesh told police that he spotted some persons in UP's Aligarh district talking that they are going to blown up a Delhi metro station on September 28. He had gone to Aligarh to meet a relative, police said. On reaching Delhi on Thursday morning, according to his claims, he made two three calls on the PCR but no action was taken place. Then he decided to teach police a lesson by entering the metro station with the gun and shooting himself.
