Traders in East Delhi can now apply for health trade licences online with the local municipal corporation launching the service through its website on Thursday. Applications for health trade licenses can be made via  'online services' tab on the East Delhi Municipal Corporation's (EDMC) website. "The health trade license application has been simplified and made available online.

Instead of having to stand in long queue and dealing with touts traders can now upload their documents on the EDMC website, pay the application fee online through internet banking or debit/credit card. The documents needed for the application has been reduced to five from eight. Apart from the documents, the application will require a self-declaration that all details given are true. An estimated 100 types of health trade licences would be issued under the process.

The leader of the House Sanjay Jain said the online application system will end the 'inspector raj' referring to the licensing inspectors who are largely seen as being corrupt. Speaking on this occasion Om Prakash Sharma (MlA) lauded steps taken by the EDMC. "This system allows the applicant to get health trade licence in a speedier and transparent manner. It is a step in the direction of digital India and good governance programme envisioned by the Prime Minister.

While addressing a gathering, Jagdish Pradhan, an MlA from Mustafabad, said EDMC is sensitive towards citizens' expectations as this is a digitisation era and he is happy to see the local body has taken the initiative in this direction.

The previous system required an applicant to submit 7-8 documents and the duration of issuing the license was at least 60 days, and prior to simplification process, 15 to 20 documents were required at the time of issuing the license. Now the entire process has been simplified and made online by EDMC that is believed to save time and cost.

EDMC Mayor Satya Sharma said from now onwards only four to five documents need to be uploaded to seek health trade license. She said that the license would be available to the applicant instantly and fees for it can be paid making a cashless transaction. "The online issue of health trade licence is expected to generate revenue of about Rs2 to 3 crore annually and the number to licences issued is likely to double up. This step would certainly reduce delay and help in ending corruption," she added.

Earlier, one could get license after 60 days after applying but now they don't need to roam around the corporation offices as it will be available online, said an official.

leader of Opposition Varyam Kaur said this function can be called successful if the process of issuing license in simplified and eased in real sense. She said the success of this system can be measured in the coming time though the step taken by the EDMC needs appreciation.
