New head looks to spruce up NDMC

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has taken up a slew of measures to reach out to people and address their grievances. Newly-appointed chairman of the council, Jalaj Shrivastava, has instructed the heads of various departments to conduct regular field inspections.

The agency recently launched its Facebook page. Shrivastava is apparently turning to new ways of approaching issues. Talking about his latest move, Shrivastava said, “Eight officers have been assigned the task of inspecting areas which come under their departments. They will have to carry out at least three inspections in a week. These officers will be accompanied by field level officers and one inspection must be during the morning time when workers collect garbage.”

For the first time, the officers will themselves reach out to the people and talk to residents and various RWAs to know their grievances, he added. Besides, the chairman himself will carry out an inspection once every fortnight along with his officials to take note of the state of affairs in the posh lutyens’ Delhi the maintenance of which falls in the hands of the council.

“Till now, people file complains either by writing to us through mails, messaging our officials and calling on our complaint numbers. Facebook is a much easier way to get in touch with the public and vice versa. Besides, we will soon start a twitter handle as well,” said Shrivastava. The council is currently running the page on trial basis so as to judge the response from its viewers.
