A section of AIIMS faculty members have expressed serious concern over the bio-metric system installed in the hospital. Doctors have reservations over the attendance via biometric as their timings are odd and there are no fixed hours of their work as they are most of the time in the hospital and among the patients. The timings of reporting to duty was fixed at 9.15 am daily and work till 5.15 pm. AIIMS administration had issued a circular on October 9 last and had mandated that all the faculty members and staff will have to mark their attendance on biometric system only.
AIIMS faculty have claimed that the implications of compulsory biometric attendance system will seriously affect the work culture of the institute as the biometric process is impractical and hence unacceptable by faculty since there are no fixed duty hours of the faculty.
“Perhaps, the chairman of computers faculty who issued the circular is not aware that most of the faculty and paramedical staff come at 8 am and in several departments OPD services runs till 7-8 pm in evening,” said a faculty member.
“Instead, there should be proper model for the biometric attendance system. There should be no time bound for the attendance as we do not have the fixed working hours,” said the AIIMS doctor.
