The Delhi Police has arrested an 18-year-old nephew of slain gangster Praveen Gahlot, along with his associate who had allegedly tried to rob a petrol pump on gunpoint from Sector-4 Dwarka on Monday. Police said that the gangster’s nephew wanted to fill the gap created due to death of his uncle in May this year.

The accused has been identified as Kamal Gahlot, a resident of Nawada area, Delhi and Sahil Tomar (20), a resident of Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. Kamal is the son of Pawan Gahlot brother of gangster Praveen who was recently murdered at Dwarka Mor by the rival gang.

According to Anto Alphonse, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district, on June 24, at around 3.15 pm, two men riding a scooty stormed the office of a petrol pump in Dwarka’s Sector-4 to rob the cash.

“One of them brandished his pistol and fired two rounds to scare the manager and owner of the Petrol Pump but as there was no cash available the duo fled away from the spot towards Matiala on their Scooty,” said the DCP adding that a case of attempt to robbery and Arms Act was registered at Dwarka North police station and investigation was taken up.

“On June 25, after receiving specific inputs and watching CCTV footages of crime scene and the route taken by the criminals, the duo were identified and apprehended. The scooty used in the commission of the crime was also recovered and was found stolen from Bindapur area,” said the DCP.

“Police has also recovered a country-made pistol with two live rounds and one magazine with four cartridges from the possession of the accused,” said the DCP adding that further investigation is going on.
