Neighbour stabs driver in Ambedkar Nagar PS

In an incident manifesting the cavalier attitude of men and officers posted in the police stations of the national Capital, a 35-year-old driver was allegedly stabbed with a file spike by his neighbour inside South-East district's Ambedkar Nagar police station.

The shocking incident took place in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Police arrested the accused at the spot and slapped Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The murder took place inside an Investigating Officer (IO)'s room and prompted the senior police officers to initiate departmental action against some of its men because of their failure to prevent a crime in the police station and also for allowing the two men to enter the IO's room, something which is against the law.

Inspector Rakesh Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ambedkar Nagar police station, was sent packing to the district police lines while Sub-Inspector Brahm Prakash and Constable Ashok were placed under suspension pending departmental enquiry.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East district, Romil Baaniya said “Departmental action was initiated after the incident and the SHO of Ambedkar Nagar police station has been transferred and sent to district lines. A Sub-Inspector (SI) and a Constable has been also told to report to district lines,”

On Monday night, the victim identified as Anil, after finishing celebrating his daughter’s 5th birthday, was seeing off the guests outside his home in Dakshinpuri when his neighbor, the accused in this case Vishal (32) approached him and asked him to treat him to alcohol as it was the birthday of the victim's daughter. But Anil refused him on the first go itself.

“Vishal works as a peon with a private firm. He wanted Anil to treat him to alcohol on the occasion of his daughter's birthday. Anil refused to oblige him,” the DCP said.

However, the refusal led to an argument and it soon turned into a scuffle. Seeing the situation going from bad to worse as they starting physically attacking each other, the victim's wife made a call to police. A police team after a while arrived at the spot and took the two quarrelling men to the Ambedkar Nagar police station to solve the matter.

The two men did not stop there as they entered into a scuffle again when they were being questioned by the Investigating Offier.

Both men started exchanging blows inside the officer's room and accused Vishal allegedly picked up a sharp file poker lying on the IO's table and started repeatedly stabbing Anil.

The victim's wife has claimed that Vishal also assaulted Anil with a rod before police could pull him away.

Anil collapsed on the floor bleeding profusely and he was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where doctors tried resuscitating him but in vain. They eventually declared him dead. Vishal too was injured in the scuffle, but he is out of danger.
