A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Outer Delhi’s Shahabad Dairy area on Sunday. Police said after the locals saw the accused dumping the minor girl in a temporary room close to his house, he was caught by them, beaten up and handed over to police. The minor’s father works in a factory as a labourer and her mother is a housewife.

According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Mohammed Junaid (28), who is a rickshaw puller. On Sunday, the girl was playing outside her house, which is in a slum in Shahbad Dairy area, when she was lured by Junaid on the pretext of snacks and cold drink.

“The accused then took the minior to his room and raped her. After raping the minor, the accused took the minor girl, who was unconscious, and dumped her in a temporary shelter near his house when he was caught by the girl’s mother and the locals, who then raised an alarm,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer district) Vikramjeet Singh said.

The locals caught hold of the accused and thrashed him while some people called the police.

The girl was found bleeding profusely with injury marks on her body, the DCP said, adding that she was rushed to nearby Ambedkar Hospital.

Police came to the spot and after listening to the complaints of the girl’s mother and locals, took the accused to the police station and arrested him, Singh said.

The girl’s mother said that her daughter was bleeding from her private parts.

“It is a horrible thing to happen to us. I can’t imagine how someone could do such a thing. I am so scared. When I saw my daughter, she was unconscious and bleeding. This incident will be like a scar on her. The accused should be punished severely,” said the girl’s mother.

A case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions of law was registered against the accused, said the officer.

“The victim has been admitted to a hospital where she is stated to be out of danger and likely to be discharged by the evening,” the DCP said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal had visited the hospital to see the injured minor. In her tweet Maliwal said, “Met 4 year old rape victim. Marks over her body tell her brutal ordeal. In deep pain n trauma. Totally inhuman. When will Delhi b rape freeIJ”
