The primary election for the North East Parliamentary constituency has taken an interesting twist where the sitting MP Jai Prakash Aggarwal will be locked in a triangular contest with former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler and former MlA from Patel Nagar Rajesh lilothia.
Both Tytler and lilothia have staked claim for the North East Parliament Constituency. The constituency is currently held by sitting MP Jai Prakash Aggarwal. The constituency is one the 16 lok Sabha seats that AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi has declared ‘Primaries’ seat where former MPs, MlAs, councillors, block and district presidents, delegates who will cast their vote for picking a candidate for the lok Sabha elections. On Friday, New Delhi lok Sabha MP Ajay Maken had a cakewalk when he was chosen unanimously the candidate for New Delhi seat. There was no opponent and he was the support of 240 voters out of 303. So he emerged as the Congress candidate unanimously.
Contrary to this, North East lok Sabha seat will face a strong battle at the primary level where Tytler and lilothia are in fray. Tytler is expected to file his paper for the primary poll on March 4. The date for filing application is March 4 and the voting to elect the candidate will be held on March 11. Tytler was given ticket from North East Delhi seat in 2009 but his name was withdrawn after strong protest related to 1984 riots by Sikh groups. In a related development, Congress leadership has asked nominations for other five seats of lok Sabha in Delhi and total 18 applications have come. Former Speaker Yoganand Shastri, Balram Tanwar are seeking ticket from South Delhi.
