NDMC to host two-day Mango Festival in Delhi from July 5

If you’re a mango lover, this weekend is going to be a treat for your senses. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is all set to host a colourful and flavour-filled Mango Festival on July 5 and 6 at the Palika Services Officers’ Institute (PSOI), Vinay Marg, Chanakyapuri. The event will run from 12 noon to 9 PM on both days and promises to be a delightful celebration of India’s favourite fruit.

According to PSOI Secretary Shri Krishan Kumar, this year’s festival will showcase more than 300 varieties of mangoes from across the country, brought in by two leading Government mango research institutions and several farmer societies. Visitors can expect to see and savour a wide range of mangoes — from the familiar Dashehari, Langra, Chausa, and Safeda to more exotic and lesser-known varieties like Tomy, Arunika, Ambika, Kachcha Meetha, Gulab Khas, and Hathi Jhool.

Leading the showcase, ICAR–CISH Lucknow will display around 250 mango varieties, including top hybrid selections and traditional favourites. Also participating is ICAR–IARI, New Delhi, known for its signature variety Pusa Lalima, famous for its vibrant red skin.

Alongside them, 10 farmer groups and individuals will each bring over 100 varieties to their stalls, giving mango enthusiasts a rare chance to see the fruit’s incredible diversity.

But the festival is not just about looking at mangoes — it’s also about tasting, buying, and even competing. 25 mango vendors and sellers will set up stalls offering mangoes for purchase, along with an exciting array of mango-based products like juices, shakes, pickles, chutneys, murabba, and desserts. A dedicated section will feature ten stalls showcasing mango recipes and dishes prepared by farmers, cooperatives, and even well-known restaurants and hotels.

Adding a bit of excitement to the experience, the festival will also include competitions among participants, focused on specific varieties like Dashehari, Mallika, Amrapali, Chausa, and even Ramkela used in pickles. Judges will compare entries for their taste, appearance, and quality.

And while the grown-ups indulge their taste buds, there will be recreational activities and entertainment for children and families — making it a perfect weekend outing for all age groups.

For plant lovers, the festival will also have a sale counter for mango saplings, allowing visitors to take home a piece of the experience and grow their own mango trees.

The NDMC’s Mango Festival is part of its larger effort to celebrate seasonal and cultural events that bring communities together and highlight the richness of India’s agricultural diversity. It is expected to draw large crowds, including senior officials, dignitaries, families, and the general public from Delhi and NCR, all coming together to honour the king of fruits in all its glory.

So whether you’re a connoisseur of mangoes, someone looking to buy the best seasonal produce, or just curious about the many flavours of this summer fruit, head to Chanakyapuri this weekend — your mango adventure awaits.
