NDMC to call meeting with all stakeholders over carbandi in CP

After completing its pilot project in Connaught Place to stop vehicles from entering the inner circle, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will now call a meeting with all the stakeholders to discuss the issues in detail, a senior NDMC official said.

The civic body however did not conduct any trail on Monday as per the earlier schedule. Traders said that they are ready to participate in the meeting to get a practical solution.

The civic body carried out its pilot project in Connaught Place on Saturday and Sunday, prohibiting vehicles from entering the inner circle of the famous market situated in the heart of the national Capital. NDMC had introduced this controversial plan in January 2017 to ban vehicles in inner and middle circle of CP but after widespread condemnation from all the stakeholders, the ban order was revoked. This year, again the NDMC is trying to implement the plan setting aside traders' concern.

"We have already suffered loss during trail period of the project. Once it will be implemented, it will certainly take away the interest of traders. There are many restaurants and bars situated on inner circle and they bore the brunt on Sunday as they already suffered approx 80 per cent loss due to such experiment. You can easily assume what will be there if it implemented," said one of the traders.

Earlier, traders had raised objection to the plan claiming that the NDMC had tweaked its earlier plan. They also staged a protest alleging that the civic body has now adopting a different plan than what was agreed upon in the previous meeting.
