The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has taken away Connaught Place (CP) parking from Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) on Wednesday. The council has asked DIMTS parking employee not to come for work. The council has suffered a whopping Rs 56 crore loss after leasing its parking lots to DIMTS. Around 88,000 square meters parking area of the NDMC was given to DIMTS which included Yashwant Palace, Satya Marg, Delhi Haat, Malcha Marg, Rail Museum and Patiala House.
“NDMC will henceforth manage DIMTS parking as council decided in its last meeting,” said an NDMC official.
NDMC charges Rs 20 per hour from public but as per the officials, the council is facing huge losses.
It may be noted that footfall in Connaught Place (CP) is above 10,000. “During weekends, visitors number goes up to 12,000, yet DIMTS was incurring losses, said the official. It may be noted that NDMC had decided to cancel the contract with DIMTS in September, 2016 as the council top brass was unhappy the way parking lots were being managed for the last eight years or so, the official added.
