Faced with empty benches in schools run by the civic body, the Education Department of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is girding up to tackle the situation, planning to float advertisement.

Through which it would appeal parents to get their pupil admitted in the NAVYUG and NDMC schools, where according to insiders, around 20 seats from class 2nd to 8th left have been left vacant every year over the years.

Speaking to The Pioneer, Chanchal Yadav, secretary NDMC said, “We want to fill the gap in the classes of NDMC schools. Parents will be encouraged to send their children in our schools that are providing quality education on the lines of private schools in Delhi.”

While the process of admissions will be online, the council will also accept students from municipal-run schools. With this, around 3,000-4,000 students can avail admissions in the council run schools, she said.

“We have also asked the principals to send the performance reports of the teachers as that would help the council in removing pitfalls and also in improving the level of education. The reports will be analysed every month and suitable action will take place, the Secretary added.

The Pioneer was first to report that the Education Department is also working to encourage students to improve their academic performance studying in the council schools by increasing the  ‘scheme scholarship’ of Rs 21,000 for the toppers of class 12th and Rs 11,000 for the topper of class 10th students respectively. “The council wants to instill competiveness among students as that would motivate them to do better in their studies” Yadav had said.
