With the aim to curb air pollution by launching electric scooters for the users, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC ) re-invited bids for its ambitious project  “App-based Rental Electric Scooter”.

NDMC Vice Chairman, Satish Upadhyay while giving the project details said 1,000 e-scooters under public-private partnership (PPP) model will be set-up in two phases at 100 locations in the NDMC area.

“In the first phase, only 500 e-scooters will be set-up at 50 charging stations and the same will be repeated in the second phase. These stations were established near metro stations, bus stops, hospitals, railway stations etc,” said Upadhyay.

He also informed that these e-scooters will have a range of 80 km on full charge and it can run with speed up to 45km per hour which can operate through a net based Application. He said users will have to hire them for a minimum of 15 minutes and the charges will be imposed each minute wise.

He further said that NDMC will register these vehicles at the transport department as these vehicles require license to operate and use of helmets is compulsory on it. “There is provision for sitting two persons. The GPS chip-based vehicles will monitor and movement tracked by NDMC Command and Control Centre situated at Palika Kendra,” he added.

Upadhyay hoped that these e-scooters would not only make a good effort towards reducing pollution in the city but also need to use private vehicles to travel for short distances. He said the project was delayed mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic and once launched it aims to curb air pollution in the heart of the capital city by providing last-mile connectivity on renting out electric scooters to

users.
