While Delhi University had aspirants queuing up for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme, admission seekers also thronged the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) on Tuesday. Sale of admission forms crossed a record 24,000.
The board still remains in the three-year mode for BA and BCom. As Wednesday is the last date for submission of forms for undergraduate courses, students were seen jostling each other on Tuesday.
last year, 23,000 forms were sold. NCWEB authorities underlined that demand is only increasing among women, especially those who are more inclined towards education while struggling through tough times.
Director of NCWEB Aarti Saxena said that the two courses which are exclusively for women have been steadily gaining popularity. She said this year, 25,000 forms have been printed, of which only a few hundred are left.
“We receive young girls even married and some are the sole financial supporters for their families. They have a struggling life yet are dedicated to pursue education. It is quite inspiring for all of us and we try to provide all kinds of facilities for their benefit. We give financial aid to the needy students, provide reference books important for their course through the library,” Saxena said.
She added that the university is vigilant on the education provided to students and we also keep a watch on their teachers. She said there are mostly very senior teachers with a good teaching experience delivering lectures to these students among which some are with 30 years of experience and also the student-teacher relation is also promoted. The first cut-off list of the NCWEB will be out on June 21. There are total 13 centres across DU colleges where the weekend classes are held and Jesus and Mary facilitates classes to students on Saturdays as well.
As an initiative the officials working at the counters have been accepting and selling the forms beyond the given time during the admission days. Here only residents of Delhi are eligible to apply. Saluting the spirit of women for their courage to take education, Saxena mentioned about a students who is doing her final year in MA Punjabi.
“We received great appreciation during the Anterdhwani, the university’s annual fest for a poster where this student was sketched along with her parents expressing grief over having a third daughter in row. It was inspired by her life. She was immediately sent to Punjab with her grandmother and after completing school she took her undergraduate degree from School of Open learning in 2001 after which she took a long break doing TV anchoring and working for ad agencies for supporting herself. Meanwhile, she got married but her will to study further got her here. But her in-laws objected to it yet she convinced them for allowing her to stitch clothes at a boutique at Kamala Nagar. From there she secretly took classes here and is completing her final year exams this year. We are proud of scores of such women here,” Saxena added.
The Delhi University’s admission process is concluding on Wednesday and the authorities have announced the time for receiving the forms will be extended till 4 pm. The total number of sales of the OMR forms on Tuesday went up with 6,230 making it a total of 1,59,271 forms. While the number of forms received remained to be 1,15,306. The total of the online forms submitted were 95,926.
