NCC volunteers to assist traffic cops

For the effective implementation even-odd rule for vehicles, the Delhi Police has extended its support to the Delhi Government and commuters will now have to go through tri-layer checking if found violating the formula.

The Delhi Traffic Police will be assisted by civil defence, scouts and 10,000 National Cadet Corps (NCC) volunteers. The teams consisting of traffic policemen, NCC volunteers, scouts and civil defence staff will be deployed at checking points of major areas of the national Capital.

If a person is found violating the rule, first he will be intercepted by the volunteers who would request them to obey the scheme and follow it on the other days. Secondly, the traffic police, deployed at some distance from the NCC volunteers, would insist them to obey the rules and not repeat the mistake. However, if the violator remained indifferent disrespecting to the policy, he, as a part of third layer of policing, will have to fork out a fine of Rs 2,000.

Transport and Rural Development Minister Gopal Rai said on Thursday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed the Traffic Police officials to go soft to commuters on first instance. Rai further said that the traffic police are directed to act in such a way that commuters start following the rules rather than getting away with only paying fine.
