With the rise in technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, private firms are leaving no stone unturned to bring new gadgets and equipment to deal with security. In recent times several private companies have brought techniques which are being used by the securities agencies to narrow down accused, trace explosives and even these techniques are helping police agencies to issue challans online to traffic violators. A private company’s recently launched low cost explosives trace detector (ETD) systems.

According to Kapil Bardeja, CEO and Co Founder- Vehant Technologies, over the last 16 years, a wide range of security products including premise security, traffic enforcement and management solutions and enterprise analytics have been deployed in multiple countries across the world.

He claimed that his company’s technological innovations in AI, ML-DL are continuously leveraged by its state-of-the-art solutions, pioneering in the security industry. “Vehant’s wide range of products includes, but is not limited to under vehicle scanning, baggage scanning, traffic management system, video analytics based security and enterprise solutions,” said Bardeja.

“We have even introduced technology to trace explosive detection in collaboration with NanoSniff Technologies, IIT-Bombay. NanoSniffer uses a unique MEMS based physics approach. The explosive molecules are pre- concentrated on a sorbant material or a swab or swipe. Swipe is inserted in the device,” he said.

“The released molecules are absorbed from the swipe and then a MEMS- based sensor detects the presence of explosives using a Physics based approach. The signal from the sensor is processed for reporting and confirming traces of explosives, it further also classifies the explosives in various categories. With extremely high sensitivity and low limits of detection (LODs), explosives trace detector (ETD) systems can detect traces of explosives by collecting a small number of molecules,” said Bardeja.

“It has been successfully deployed at various data centers, cargo complexes. With its low operational cost and cutting edge technology, it promises to change the security screening industry in the country through its high selectivity, sensitivity, reversibility and real-time operation,” claimed Bardeja.

“The market has been untapped due to high costs of the ETD available till now, difficulty in their use and their complex technologies. NanoSniffer has broken the boundaries and opened up new horizons for explosive detection systems,” said the company spokesperson.

“The current size of the security screening market globally is approximately 7 billion USD as per the survey in 2020. The ETD market globally is measured at 1.1 billion USD in 2020 and is expected to reach 1.6 billion USD by 2026. India market is typically 3-4 percent of the global market,” the spokesperson added.
