Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia on Thursday met lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung in the case of “mysterious” death of a man on Monday while being taken to a police station in North Delhi’s Nand Nagri area.
After submitting a video proof to the lieutenant Governor , they sought strict action against police personnel involved in the case, said sources.
The magisterial probe, ordered by AAP Government into the case, has held policemen “responsible” for the death.
According to sources, District Magistrate, Shahdara, Abhishek Singh, investigating the matter, has termed the death of Shanu Shahnawaz Chaudhary (35) “unnatural” and held the cops, who took him to hospital, guilty for his death.
“Chaudhary died due to suffocation and it was an unnatural death. Eyewitnesses have told the District Magistrate that cops were at fault as they resorted to violent means and the victim was beaten up by the cops as they sat on his body to control him,” a senior official said.
The deceased’s wife has alleged that her husband died of police torture.
However, police said the Chaudhary, was with his wife Mamta on a motorcycle when the incident took place.
Also, AAP alleged that the Delhi Police was trying to divert the attention by highlighting former law minister Somnath Bharti’s case, amidst the controversy when the Delhi Police is responsible for the brutal killing of Chaudhary.
AAP leader Ashutosh said, “There is an attempt to trash the mind of people with the cruel act of the Delhi Police by giving prominence to the Somnath Bharti’s case.” If any Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MlA would have been involved in any controversy, then the Delhi Police would not have wasted even a minute to arrest him, added Ashutosh.
