Names of 15 competent officers sought to assist investigation

Former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, who is heading the Commission of Enquiry probing the alleged irregularities in DDCA affairs, has written to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, seeking names of competent officers to assist the investigation. Subramanium sought dossiers of five of the “best officers of the IB, who should be of the level of joint director and below”, five officers from the CBI and five officers of the Delhi Police, with their records. In his letter to Doval, Subramanium said that “some of the disclosures may also pertain to national security”.

CM Arvind Kejriwal defended Subramanium’s communication, saying he has the powers and the right to seek officers from anywhere in connection with his probe. However, the BJP described Subramanium’s move as “cheap publicity and propaganda”.

“Obviously, this means that the Central Government would render all possible assistance in this regard,” the top lawyer wrote. “...It is important that I must ask you to step in and offer suitably qualified officers who will also be morally endowed to assist the Commission,” the letter said.

Citing the Justice Wadhwa Commission probing the murder of Graham Staines and his two sons, Subramanium stated that ‘one of the officers of the IB was which came to know long after the conclusion of the enquiry, in fact a son-in-law of a former Prime Minister. “This is only to emphasise how officers of the IB have always maintained a certain standard,” the letter said.
