A four-year-old girl was murdered after being sexually assaulted at Jamia Nagar area in South-East Delhi. The girl’s half naked body was discovered from a drain near her shack. According to a police official, the girl, whose father is a welder, was asleep beside her grandmother at a jhuggi near a dhobi ghat in Jamia Nagar when she went missing around 3 am on Sunday.
She immediately raised an alarm and informed police. “While police and other relatives were trying to trace the girl, a neighbour spotted the body in drain located about 100 metres away from home around 11 am,” said the police officer. “It appears she was strangulated to death and the body has been dumped in a drain,” said the officer. Police have also not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault as the girl had bled from her privates. They have questioned several people living nearby. The body has been sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for a post mortem examination.
During investigation, it has been revealed that some unidentified man had tried to abduct another minor living in the same slum cluster in the evening. But he failed in his attempt after the girl raised an alarm and he fled the scene. “We are trying to establish the identity of the as yet unidentified man,” the officer added.
