Mystery shrouds death of Manipuri girl

Published on:

A 21-year-old Manipuri girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her rented accommodation in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning.

Prima facie, it appeared to be a case of suicide by some poisonous substance but there were some injury marks on her eyes and near toes.

The nature of wound suggests that portion of body is eaten by an animal. The body was sent for postmortem and now police are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause the death.

Police said that the deceased was identified as Reingamphy, who lived in a rented accommodation along with female friend in Chirag Delhi for the past two months and was working with a beauty parlor in Saket but she was unemployed for the last two weeks.

“The incident came to light on Wednesday around 11.30 am when the victim’s landlord found that the door was closed from inside and even after several knocks, she was not opening it. He immediately made a call to police control room and informed them about the incident after which senior officials from Malviya Nagar police station rushed to the spot,” a senior police officer said.

After reaching the spot, police broke open the door and found her body on a blood-soaked bed. They took the body to AIIMS.

“Initial investigation suggested that it was suicide case but there were some fresh injury marks on her eyes and toes. Nature of wound suggests that portion of body is eaten by an animal. Movement marks of some small animal (possibly rat) is there on the bed sheet. We are investigating the

case from all possible angles,” the officer added.

Police said that there was no other entry in the house. Accesses from first floor are theoretically possible but no tell tale sign is there on wall.
