A 45-year-old man, working as a security guard at a private school was found murdered under mysterious circumstances on the campus in Northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Devi Dayal. Senior police officers of the Shahdara district said that an empty liqour bottle, two glasses and some leftover food were found in the room where Dayal was found dead, indicating that the accused were known to the victim.

Police said alcohol bottles were also found inside the guard room, suspecting that he was initially drinking with someone and later were bludgeoned to death.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad said, “We received a PCR call around 9 am at the Seemapuri police station regarding a man found unconscious.”

The officer said, “On reaching the spot, the local police found that the deceased had sustained blunt injuries on his head. On further enquiry, it was found that Dayal works in the accounts unit of a tranporter in the day and works as a security guard during night. Dayal has been working in the school for the past two years.”

A senior police officer said Dayal hailed from Himachal Pradesh and had been living in Delhi for past two decades. “We have informed Dayal’s family members and have preserved the body for post mortem which will be conducted on Monday,” he added.

Police further said it appears that the accused was known to the victim as the entry inside the school or room appears to be friendly.

“We have scanned the CCTV cameras installed in the school and are trying to establish who was last seen entering the school gate on Saturday night,” said the senior police officer. A case under sections of murder has been registered, police added.
