A disfigured body of 40-year-old British national was found in South Delhi’s Bhogal area on Sunday morning. Police identified the deceased as Rodick Andrew Reymond who was wrapped in a blue plastic sheet with hands and feet tied and the face bearing gruesome injury and burn marks. Owing to the nature of the injury marks, police believe that the deceased may have been tortured before his death. Police also suspects that the victim may have been murdered few days ago.
“I was heading home when I noticed a terrible stench. The body wad wrapped properly making it very difficult for us to open it. Finally when we found out it was a dead person we informed the police on immediately,” said Raghu Raj, a security guard who discovered the body. Initially identifying the body was a task but a passport that was lying in one of the pockets of the deceased made the job easy for the police. Initially police suspected that the passport that was recovered from the body may not be a genuine one, however, upon verification the identity of the victim was confirmed. Police officials investigating the case have filed a case of murder at the Nizamuddin police station and initiated an investigation.
Authorities have now started checking various guesthouses in Bhogal area and see if the victim was staying in any of them. Many from the African community reside in small guesthouses in this part of the Capital. Police questioned several locals if they had seen anyone dumping the body on the roadside but as of now have not been able to find any eyewitness. The body meanwhile was sent for post-mortem.
An official probing the case revealed, “It seems he was murdered three days ago. There are several injury marks on his face, head and body. The face particularly is in a bad shape. It seems the victim was also burnt probably using cigarettes or a lighter. His cheeks and chin has burn marks. But the cause of death may have been strangulation.”
