Despite the Government taking various measures to develop infrastructure in the Trans-Yamuna region, the area falling under Mustafabad is apparently untouched by the Government. The people are still struggling for better roads, pure water, 24-hour electricity, sewer, drainage, encroachment, parking and other civic infrastructure. There is no Metro connectivity too, resulting in congestion on roads most of the time.
As the constituency has a large number of people belonging to lower class and lower-middle class, issues like inflation and corruption are also prevailing here. lack of development, cleanliness, inflated water and electricity bills and faulty drainage system are primary issues being raised by the residents of this area. Sewerage problem is also a major issue as the area has no sewer line. Anti-incumbency wave can also spoil chance of victory for the sitting Congress MlA.
large number of Jats, belonging to Western UP, and Gujjars living in West Karawal Nagar and Shiv Vihar Wards are likely to vote for the BJP as a result of polarisation after the Muzaffarnagar riots. Hasan Ahmed, sitting MlA and Congress candidate, may face difficulty in retaining the Mustafabad seat for the second time. Three other Muslims candidates fielded by the BSP, JD(U) and Peace Party may eat into the minority vote share. The BJP has given a ticket to Jagdish Pradhan, while Kapil Kumar Dhama has been fielded by the AAP. The BSP has fielded Naz Mohammad Khan, while the Peace Party has fielded Sher Khan Malik, second runner-up of at last Assembly elections. Shakub Yusuf Jai is also in the poll fray as JD(U)’s nominee.
