A day after a woman alleged gangrape by seven people at Murthal in Sonipat district, Haryana, during Jat stir, contradictory details have emerged that point out that the case may not have any connection to the alleged gangrape being talked about in the media and might be fallout of a family dispute as suspected by the Special Investigating Team.
“This case shouldn’t be linked to Murthal gangrape as it involves a family dispute,” cautioned Investigation Officer on Monday.
According to police, all the accused in the case happen to be complainant’s in-laws, including her two brother in-laws and five nephews.
Besides, this is not the first case that the woman has filed against her in-laws, sources told The Pioneer.
According to police records, she has filed at least four cases (131, 637, 117, 201, 101) since 1999 against her in-laws and others alleging rape, kidnap and
molestations before this, which either could not stand the scrutiny of the court or were settled outside.
The complainant who was married to one Satpal from Jatedi village filed first case in Sonipat in 1999 accusing Satbir Singh son of Dhara Singh, resident of the same village, of raping her.
The second case was registered in 2001 at INA police station in Delhi against Naresh Tyagi and Ashok for raping the complainant.
In 2013 the complainant filed two separate cases at Shahbad Dairy police station in Delhi — one for molestation and another for kidnap of her daughter.
In another startling revelation, National Commission of Women member Rekha Sharma accepted to have noticed inconsistencies between the victim and her 15-year-old daughter’s statements. However she declined to specify the details.
While the Haryana Police and the SIT refused to divulge any information about the latest development in the case, police filed its status report on the alleged gangrapes and said no such incident took place on the NH-1.
The status report was filed before a division bench of justices SK Mittal and H S Sidhu.
The status report filed by police “denied the charges of molestation and gangrape during the intervening night of February 22/23 at Murthal in Sonipat district.” The division Bench adjourned the case to March 14. The High Court had taken suo motu note of the matter after a report in a local daily on the alleged rapes. The bench had appointed senior advocate Anupam Gupta as amicus curiae to assist the court in this matter.
During the course of the hearing, ADGP law and Order Mohd Akil and head of the three-member women
police officers probing the allegations DIG Rajshree Singh were also present.
The officer also had said a “family dispute” could be the reason behind the woman filing the complaint.
The officer said the victim was not sure about the exact scene of the crime but claimed she was raped in a building near Murthal when she was on way to
Narela in Delhi from Haridwar in a van.
According to the report filed by Director General of Police Haryana, during the fact ascertaining exercise, no one complained about incidents of any gangrape or molestation of any woman by miscreants.
