Reacting to the recent incident in which a 60-year-old man was murdered at Wazirpur Industrial Areas over water-related dispute, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Monday said it was very sad that people have to sacrifice their lives over drinking water in a Government that promised free-water to the residents.
Maken visited the area, where victim lal Bahadur was killed during a scuffle over water, to console his family. He also alleged that ever since the Kejriwal Government came to power, many people have lost their lives due to scarcity of water.
Maken also said that water pipes were laid by the Congress Government to provide drinking water to the people in the area but for the past four-five months, the supply through that line had been stopped. “This resulted in regular quarrel over water in the area.
He also said that the poor people are not in priority list of the Government led by Kejriwal in Delhi. “The water supplied in the areas where poor lives, are not even fit to drink due to high level of ammonia level,” he said.
Maken further said that there will be a severe shortage of water in the coming days due to the irresponsible action and inactivity of the government. He appealed to the 'Chief Executive Officer' (CEO) of the Delhi Jal Board to take immediate steps to solve the water shortage in the Wazirpur Industrial area and other areas.
