Municipal office ignorant about Bhagat's contribution to nation!

Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev scarified their lives for the nation and it is almost impossible that students of primary schools of the South Delhi Municipal schools will not have known about the fact.

All of them must also be familiar with the contribution of BR Ambedkar. However, civic body officials are unaware about the fact. Municipal secretary office has sent back the proposals of naming of three Corporation park after three martyrs and Ambedkar seeking brief account of their lives and contribution to the nation. The move led to criticism and agitation from councillors — both ruling BJP and Opposition Congress — for ignorance about contribution of great freedom fighters and Babasaheb. Parties raised the issue in House on Monday and demanded action against concerned officials.

“Around two months back, I had sent a written proposal to rename two parks of Gangotri apartments in Alaknanda after Bhagat Singh and Rajguru. The recommendation of the RWA was also attached. However, I received a reply from the municipal secretary office that I need to provide a brief biography about the freedom fighters after which the parks have to be named,” said Virender Kasana, a councilor from CR Park.

Congress councillor Amrita Dhawan claimed that a similar request for naming a park after BR Ambedkar also received same treatment from the executive wing. Seeking stern action against the goof up, Chairman, education committee Satish Upadhyay of SDMC criticised the official of the Corporation. However, the officials denied the allegations arguing that the councillors have just been asked to send the request for naming as per the prescribed format of the Corporation.

“There is a fixed format for making such proposal for naming roads, park or any other municipal properties. Councillor’s proposal is placed before the naming committee as it without adding or deleting a single word. Since a proper resolution is passed for the purpose, a format has been made. The format requires the councillors to give a brief biography about the personality. The secretary office has requested councillors to send their proposal as per format,” said municipal secretary OP Taneja.

leader of House Subhash Arya informed the House that direction has been given to concerned officials not to reject such proposals in future when personality of such stature is involved. SDMC Mayor Savita Gupta has also directed officials to stop practice of asking brief biography about such eminent personalities.
