Multi-level car park to come to Atta Market's rescue

Those driving to the bustling Sector 18 market in Noida may soon be spared the hassles of finding a parking spot, once the Noida Authority’s plans of a multi-level car park come to fruition.

The Authority build open a car-park facility on a piece of land opposite Hotel Radisson in Atta Market. The facility is expected to hold 4, 000 vehicles, and cater to shoppers and professionals flocking to the adjacent Atta Market, GIP Mall, Film City, Sector 27 market and other areas. Presently, the area gets completely choked in the absence of adequate parking space, particularly on the weekends.

The facility will be spread out across eight floors -- two of which will be underground. The decision was taken after a meeting of authority officials on Monday and the process for floating the tender for the construction has also been initiated. The construction work is likely to be started in two months. An authority official said the project will be completed in 18 months. A total Rs 150 crore will be spent over the project.

It was also decided that the facility would not be automated. It will be the first multilevel parking in the district.

“Considering the ever-increasing volume of vehicles in the city, we have decided to construct an eight-floor parking (facility) at the Sector 18 market. The bids will be accepted this week and the tender would be allotted to the company quoting the lowest price,” said AK Goel, chief maintenance engineer, Noida Authority.

He added that the plan was put in abeyance on several occasions however the decision was finally taken as the space crunch became more pronounced, Goel said.

Authority sought the help of two Delhi-based institutes -- School of Planning and Architecture and Indian Institute of Technology, for consultation and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project.
