While most of the BJP MlAs of the fifth Delhi Assembly are going to find their names in the party’s list, top sources have suggested that around three ex-legislators, including senior party leader and former MlA from Janakpuri Jagdish Mukhi, may not be given tickets for the February 7 Assembly polls in the national Capital. To formally begin the process of candidate selection, the party, on Tuesday, constituted the Election Committee of the State unit.

The first list of candidates will mostly see a repetition of the winners of the December 2013 Assembly elections. With his son-in law, Suresh Kumar, likely to be given a ticket by its arch rival, Congress, from Janakpuri itself, senior leader and ex-MlA from the constituency, Mukhi, may not get to fight the polls this time.

Besides, Ranjit Singh Kashyap who won in the previous election from the reserved seat of Gokalpuri is also likely to be axed due to his face SC certificate controversy because of which he has a pending court case. In addition, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay had already made it clear that its seven MPs would not be allowed to fight the upcoming polls.

The party’s Election Committee for the Delhi polls will have 16 members and five special invitees. The names include Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, all the seven MPs, national secretaries RP Singh and Anil Jain, the four Delhi BJP general secretaries, former State unit presidents — Vijay Goel,

VK Malhotra and Vijender Gupta and Jagdish Mukhi. Besides, the president of the State unit’s Mahila Morcha Kamaljeet Sehrawat will also be included as a member.

Party leaders have suggested that the final call will be taken by national BJP president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi who are key members of the party’s CEC. A meeting of the State Election Committee with the CEC is likely on January 16 and the first list will be released.
