Mountaineer Santosh finds her name deleted from electoral roll in city

Famous mountaineer Santosh Yadav, the first woman in the world who inscribed her name in the record books for climbing  world’s highest peak, the Mount Everest twice and also the first woman to climb the Mount Everest from the Kangshung Face has found her name missing from the electoral rolls of the national Capital.

The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has also made the Yadav the brand ambassador of the Election Commission to spread awareness about Right to Vote and to encourage the people to cast their vote for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The general elections in Delhi will held on May 12.

Requesting the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh to add name of the mountaineer Santosh Yadav on Saturday, the representatives of Yadav stressed that despite being the world champion twice and the brand ambassador of Lok Sabha Elections appointed by the Delhi CEO, her name is missing from the electoral roll. As per sources, they also submitted a letter to Delhi CEO to add Yadav’s name in the voters’ list.

Sources in the EC said that the issue is brought to the notice of Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena who advised them to take up the matter with CEO of Delhi.

Yadav was earlier a resident of Chanakyapuri in New Delhi but has shifted to Dwarka recently. Her name in the voters’ list neither reflected on her old residential address nor on the new address. According to electoral rules, any family member can submit Form 7 meant to delete a name, but Form 6 must be submitted by the concerned voter for

inclusion of his name in the voters’ list.

However, according to an official of poll body, Yadav’s name is next to impossible to add in the electoral list at this time as the deadline for registering for the Lok Sabha elections is over. “Yadav should have updated her new address or re-registered for the voter Identity Card, if she had any problem, the issue would have been solved earlier. Moreover, the Commission will check from where she had registered for the voter ID and action will be taken by the office of the Delhi CEO but it is quite impossible to add her name in the voters list,” said an official requesting anonymity.

The same incident also occured in the Karnataka, where the name of Rahul Dravid, the former captain of Indian Cricket Team was deleted from the voters’ list and he missed the chance to exercise his franchise in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the State. Interestingly, Dravid was appointed the brand ambassador of the Kranataka  State election commission to encourage the people to cast their vote for the Lok Sabha Polls 2019.
