Fight between two brothers turned ugly when one of them shot at their 60-year-old mother, when she tried to intervene. She was allegedly shot at by her son in Northwest Delhi's Mukundpur area on Saturday night.
Police said that the victim, Vimla Singh, is in serious condition and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The accused, Satish, is absconding.
A senior police officer said that the victim received gunshot injury after she came in the middle of her two sons who were fighting over property dispute. Satish allegedly pulled out a licensed pistol and took an aim at his elder brother, Sunder. Their mother Vimla came in the range of the bullet while attempting to save her elder son and got shot at instead, police said.
"The two brothers had been fighting over property dispute for a long time. On Saturday night, heated argument broke out between the two brothers. The younger one, Satish, took out a licensed pistol and took an aim at his elder brother. Their mother, Vimla, attempted to stop him and came in the middle of the two fighting brothers. When Satish fired, the bullet hit Vimla," said a police officer.
Satish fled from the spot after the incident. It is alleged that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Police received a PCR call at around 9 pm and were informed about the crime. Vimla was rushed to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. Due to her serious condition, her family later shifted her to a private hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
"A case of attempt to murder has been registered at Bhalaswa Dairy Police Station. Efforts are on to arrest him," said a senior police officer.
