While discarding the reports about Murthal gangrapes during the Jat stir as rumours, families of the accused and the complainant, and residents of Jatedi village claimed that the entire case is a family dispute.
Contrary to what’s out there in the public, the village has a story of its own: A story of a son gone rogue and a wilful daughter. Not only the complainant’s in-laws but her mother and sister also rubbished the allegations and said the complainant has done it once in the past also at the behest of her husband. The complainant, who alleged gangrape by seven people at Murthal, was married to Satpal, a native of Jatedi village.
Satpal’s was an extended family as almost four generations of the family lived in the same village.
Besides, the complainant’s sister was married to Satpal’s younger brother who is now one of the seven accused in the case. Samundari, mother of the complainant said her daughter and son-in-law are culprit in this case, “Being a mother, I should support her but my daughter is trickster. She didn’t even spare her own family and accused her brother of kidnapping her daughter once.”
“Her husband (Satpal) does nothing but they need money to survive that’s why they go on filing cases against whomsoever they can and extort money,” she added.
Complainant’s younger sister Seema said police should enquire about how she (complainant) reached Panipat from Haridwar when all modes of travelling were closed due to Jat stir.
“My husband (Satpal’s younger brother and complainants brother-in-law) did not go out for his work due to stir. He stayed at home, surprisingly, police are not asking her how she reached Panipat from Haridwar when all modes of transportation were closed due to the stir,” she asked.
The villagers said people are connecting this family dispute case with Jat agitation and have developed different stories of gangrape at Murthal while there is no eyewitness who can confirm the incident.
“As the media published the reports of gangrape, my son and daughter-in-law, in order to take advantage of the situation came forward with false allegation,” said complainant’s father-in-law.
Many villagers said the family dispute should be investigated separately as it has nothing to do with Jat stir.
“We do not need reservation. The entire matter is being projected wrong, the women’s cloths which were found in the field was of tourists who came to Jurassic park,” said a disgruntled villager.
