A woman and her son, who had allegedly beaten to death a 42-year-old DTC bus driver after the bus had grazed past his bike, were on Monday remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a court.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sushant Changotra sent Vijay Singh and his mother Roshni to a judicial custody (JC) till May 25 after they were produced in court by police. The woman, identified as Roshni (45) wife of Raj Singh, was arrested on Monday morning, while her son Vijay Singh, the main accused, was arrested on Sunday night. Police investigations have revealed that the woman had instigated her son Vijay to thrash DTC driver Ashok Kumar.
The Investigating Officer (IO) however, did not seek custodial interrogation of the two accused, residents of Mundka in West Delhi, and said they be sent to a judicial custody. Meanwhile, the court also issued a notice to the concerned authorities of a Government school in Nangloi to bring Vijay’s date of birth records for ascertaining his age. Police said that the age of Vijay, the prime accused, was 19 years and he was a major.
While Vijay was arrested late on Sunday night, his mother Roshni, who has been named as the co- accused in the crime, was arrested on Monday morning. A case was registered at Mundka police station.
According to police, the incident took place on Sunday morning when DTC bus driver Ashok Kumar was attacked by the biker following the accident in Mundka area. Police said no passenger of the bus or any passerby came forward to save Kumar as he was allegedly attacked by Vijay.
It had not revealed the identity of the biker earlier, saying he might be a minor. Police said that Vijay had beaten Kumar with his helmet and fire extinguisher continuously for a few minutes and then fled the spot.
Kumar was driving a low-floor, non-AC bus of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) which was going from Karampura to Bahadurgarh. Investigators said the biker and his mother, riding pillion, fell on the road after the bus grazed past their motorcycle before the driver was attacked.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has announced a compensation of Rs5 lakh to the victim’s family and said a permanent job in the Transport Department would be given to one family member of the deceased.
