A mother-daughter duo allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance in a rented flat in an upscale condominium located in Sector-67 in Gurugram, the police said on Friday.
The incident took place on Wednesday when Veena Shetty (46) and her daughter Yashika (24) consumed poison on Wednesday.
The body of the woman was found in her room while the body of her daughter was found in a bedroom in their house.
During the investigation, the police came to know that the woman's husband Hari Shetty had also committed suicide on July 6 in a hotel located in Sector-53.
Ashok Verma the manager of the society told reporters that Hari Shetty used to work as a Taxation while her wife was working in a private firm. The couple had twins daughters. The family used residing in the society since January 2021.
"Soon after an information, we reached the incident spot and found the duo bodies in their flat we immediately alert the police which took the custody of the body," Verma told reporters.
However, the police said the reason behind the step is yet to be known.
"We are investigating the matter. The actual motive behind this incident will be known after a detailed investigation," Subhash Boken, spokesperson of the Gurugram police said.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem and further investigations are on, police added.
