More underpasses, flyovers to unclog Gurugram traffic

In an effort to decongest the traffic flow in Gurugram, the district has been given more flyover and underpass projects. The spots where the construction work will soon start at are at Hero Honda Chowk to Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), near HUDA City Center Metro Station and Atul Kataria Chowk, one of the busiest intersections on Old Delhi-Gurugram Road.

The upgradation of important junctions on Delhi-Gurugram expressway  Signature Tower, Iffco Chowk and Rajiv Chowk is under progress.

The newly built eight-lane Hero Honda Chowk Flyover, two-lane Underpass from Chaudhary Bhakhtawar Singh road towards Delhi near Rajiv Chowk and a four-lane Maharana Pratap Flyover on Mehrauli-Gurugram Road recently have been opened for commuters.

The State Government has decided that road from Hero Honda Chowk to NPR on NH-48 will be expanded to six lanes. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will construct the portion from Hero Honda Chowk to Shaheed Captain Umang Bhardwaj Chowk on Pataudi road. The stretch after this will be constructed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG). This road would also have the facility of an underpass, two flyovers or one railway over bridge.

Meanwhile, HUDA City Centre is often dogged by traffic problems, with autos parked outside the Metro station grabbing a lot of road space. So the government has decided the road junction at HUDA City Center Metro Station will be modified.

The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and GMDA will jointly construct a foot over bridge and an underpass at this junction so as to facilitate the people.

Apart from this, the authorities are also planning to construct a flyover or underpass near Atul Kataria Chowk to tackle traffic load on Old Delhi Road. The road will have six lanes from Mahavir Chowk to Palam Vihar curve, after which it will be widened as per available space.

“The construction of these projects is expected to smoothen traffic flow to a great extent in Gurugram. These projects were also demanded by the several residents in the city,” said Ashok Sharma,  the Project Director of NHAI.
