More relief in store for Delhiites

Published on:

In a major relief to Delhiites, mercury dipped by nearly three degrees on Thursday. From a sweltering 45.7 degrees Celsius (seasons highest), the mercury finally plummeted and the maximum was recorded at 40.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

The weather department officials said Delhiites will be relieved further as there is a possibility of rain in the next two to three days. This, according to them, will further bring down the temperature below 39 degree mark.

“Initially, it was the Westerly desert winds’ impact that led to a rise in the temperature, and it persistently remained above the 43 degrees Celsius mark. However, the situation has changed now as the winds from the Himalayan region are blowing. The fall in temperature can be accorded to the 'weather system' in Odisha, Rajasthan and along the Bengal Coast. Besides, there has been rainfall up to the Bihar region; which has had a direct impact on the temperature in Delhi," said Dr RK Jenamani, Director incharge of the Indian Meteorological Department.

The officials at the Met Department said that there might be a further dip in temperature as the mercury is expected to touch 39 degrees Celsius in the next two-three days.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature on Thursday remained at 40.4 degrees Celsius, almost 3 degrees less than Wednesday’s  42.8 degrees Celsius. The Met officials said that the temperature had finally resumed "normalcy". The minimum temperature, however, remained one notch above the normal minimum temperature at 27.8 degrees.
