More cut-offs in offing for reserved seats

More cut-offs in offing for reserved seats

As Delhi University admissions are going on in full swing with the unreserved seats being filled faster, admissions for reserved seats find few takers even after the fourth cut offs list due to the high cut offs in the major courses. If the seats under this category remain vacant even after the fifth cut off, colleges will have to release sixth, seventh and more cut-off lists.

Dean of Students’ Welfare JM Khurana said that last year too the seats in these categories remained vacant as a result colleges had to come with a series of cut-off list and the number went up to 11. Khurana underlined that the university has special provision for admission of the OBC candidates in which colleges give a relaxation of 10 per cent in the minimum eligibility marks of the said course and for SC and ST relaxation is given up to 5 per cent. In case the seats remain vacant further relaxation would be given to fill up all the reserved seats for SC and ST under the reserved quota of 22.5 per cent.

However if OBC’s 27 per cent reserved seats remain vacant on the last date of admission, the same will be filled up by other eligible candidates. “The reason for seats remaining vacant could be either of the high cut-offs set by the colleges or the less number of candidates coming for taking admissions. If the seats are not filled it is bound that more cut-off lists will pour from colleges,” Khurana added.

In the fouth cut-off list, the percentage set for OBC category in B.Com and Economics is higher than 90 per cent. At Hindu College, the BCom cut-off for OBC is 93 to 96 per cent and for Economics it is 93.5 per cent. At Hansraj College, the cut-off is 92.5 to 94.5 and 92 per cent for the same courses and at IP college too it is 91.5 per cent for BCom and 93.25 for Economics.
