In order to curb the violation of the model code of conduct which came into force after the announcement of 2019 General Elections, the Delhi Excise Department has asked the enforcement officials to monitor the CCTV footage of liquor warehouses daily to prevent the use of alcohol to lure the voters ahead the polls.
The department has also recently issued an order warning the owners of Delhi's Liquor shops against selling of alcohol on the basis of 'Coupon or token'.
The election in Delhi will held on May 12. The excise department had also asked the liquor shops to conduct all liquor sales only through scanners.
The Excise Department has appointed a special team of seven designated officers to monitor the recording of CCTV cameras installed in the liquor warehouses across the city for at least 15 minutes daily.
"The officers will monitor the CCTV cameras on a daily basis and will keep a close eye on all the liquor warehouses for next two months till the elections gets over," said an official.
Further as per the order, the designated officers appointed to monitor to the footage will also have to submit a certificate on daily basis after reviewing the CCTV cameras installed at various liquor warehouses.
The certificates should say that CCTVs installed at bonded warehouses are under working condition and no irregular activity regarding illicit storage or transportation of illicit liquor has been noticed. "Bonded warehouses are hereby put under 24x7 CCTV monitoring. No liquor should release without proper license or permit," said an official.
