Mohit Tyagi gets SIT clean chit

Published on:

Mohit Tyagi, the wireless operator of Additional DCP, West district, whose name had figured in an illegal arms supply racket, has been given a clean chit by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime Branch on the technical grounds.

The reason ferreted out by the Crime Branch sleuths is that they cannot arrest the operator merely on the basis of accused person’s disclosure. On the contrary in Deepak Bhardwaj murder case, South district police had arrested his son Nitesh Bhardwaj following the disclosure statement of Baljeet Singh Sherawat and the killers who had shot Bhardwaj dead.

On April 12, Gaurav was arrested from Rohini area following the interception of his conversation with Ravish, a notorious criminal of Dwarka area. Police have recovered one 7.62 mm pistol and a Swift desire car from his possession.

“During interrogation, Gaurav said that he had met Tyagi and the said weapon was given by him. They had met in the parking of Radisson Hotel where they consumed liquor and Tyagi asked him to deliver the weapon to Ravish. After his arrest, Crime Branch sleuths were looking for Tyagi, who was absconding and had even switched off his cell-phone. On April 13, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Vikas Puri sub-division) PC Mann had gone and met Inspector Jitender Kundu in SIT’s office,” the sources said.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Gaurav was in constant touch with Tyagi and they had used mobile messaging app - Whatsapp to exchange their messages. “Four days ago, now the absconding Tyagi was discovered and the senior officer asked the investigators to arrest him. But now they are claiming that, they cannot arrest Tyagi only on the basis of Gaurav’s disclosure,” the sources said.

Sources said that the investigation of the case was hampered after the connivance of Inspector Kundu. Earlier in 2012, Kundu was involved in a controversy involving his subordinates who were arrested in a case of robbery where cops had looted Rs 3 crore in East Delhi from a forwarding agent. Kundu was said to have been moved out of the Crime Branch and he survived owing to his powerful connections in the Delhi Police Headquarters.
