Mohalla clinic: A lifeline for underdeveloped Burari

The low-cost mohalla clinic has come as a blessing for residents of Burari.

Earlier they had to visit private hospital located on the outskirts of the constituency. According to residents, the mohalla clinic is providing all basic healthcare facilities with free medicines at their door step. The Pioneer visited Burari to know the response of people and they said mohalla clinic is a lifeline for them to get the health treatment.

Mandeep Kaur, 26, said mohalla clinic is just outside my house. “I went to the mohalla clinic for my daughter’s health treatment. I am satisfied the way doctors are taking care of patients,” she said.

A cobbler who puts his stall adjacent to the mohalla clinic said, “For the past few days, I am suffering from fever and stomach pain. I visited the mohalla clinic and doctor gave me appropriate time. I also got the free-medicine too,” said Mahipal.

Everyday, residents form long queues since morning till afternoon outside the AAP mohalla clinic. The two-room air conditioned mohalla clinic is equipped with all basic medical facilities and caters to about 250-300 patients a day.

Dr Ashok Jamrani, a medical incharge of mohalla clinic in Burari constituency said, “It’s good. Government is trying to boost the health sector in Delhi. Every day, we witness about 250 patients.”

A few days ago, there was no power supply in the clinic. When asked about the reason for lack of electricity in the mohalla clinic, Pawan, a resident of the area, said there was no electricity supply in the entire area. “That’s why patients and doctors had to face the problem. Now, the problem has been solved,” he said.

Burari, one of the densely populated assembly segments, located at the outskirts of Delhi is still underdeveloped. Pawan, said people  need such  health care services and the Government should be opening more clinics.

It may be noted that Arvind Kejriwal Government first launched its low-cost Mohalla Clinic in a relief camp in Peera Garhi area with much fanfare. With the response of people in the locality, the Government has decided to commission 1,000 such mohalla clinics across the city. Recently, the State Government launched 90 mohalla clinics to cater to the health needs of the people.
