Modern School bullies withdrawn from school

Following an ugly spat involving six minor students of a premium public school in South Delhi, the school management has embarked upon a face-saving exercise. The management of Modern School, Vasant Vihar, on Thursday decided to ask the parents of the delinquents to withdraw them from the school.

Those two students, who were found to be the offenders, have now been withdrawn from the school. “Those two students, who were the aggressors, have now withdrawn from the school. They were asked to leave. As we did not want to hamper the future of the children, we asked their parents to kindly withdraw them,” Ashok Pratap Singh, trustee of Modern School, Vasant Vihar told PTI. Other two students who remained present and did nothing to prevent the incident have been asked to mend their ways, Singh further said.

The incident had taken place on Monday and was shot on a mobile phone by a student and shared on WhatsApp, which subsequently went viral. Incidentally, students are banned from using mobile phones in the school campus. The video clip clearly showed six boys from affluent families bullying and abusing a student belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The incident has besmirched the image of Modern School, Vasant Vihar and it has also cast serious doubts about the quality of education being imparted in this highly sought-after school. Meanwhile two of the students who were bullying have voluntarily withdrawn from the school.

Meanwhile, the school management conducted an open house session on Thursday and invited the parents to put in their thoughts and suggestions regarding the incident. Principal of the school, Meenakshi Sahni,  said the response from the parents was overwhelming as the suggestions put forth by them not only helped the school authorities to come out on a slew of guidelines but also educated the parents about certain rules for their children who are active on social networking sites. After the meeting, the school management has decided to implement these guidelines in the form of an advisory from the upcoming academic session. The advisory will also be uploaded over the school website to be easily accessible.

Having learnt their lessons, the school authorities have now decided to install CCTV cameras in the school premises and have also asked the teachers to be alert during and after school hours.
