The civic body has also launched a mobile number 9466726263 and 7005674475 for door-to-door collection of debris and construction waste.

“Construction and demolition activities are very high in Gurugram, due to which debris is generated in large quantities here. Earlier, several steps have been taken by the civic body to solve this problem. For this, IL&FS has started the ‘Debris Management Unit’ at Basai, in which waste debris material will be used for making other various types of construction material like tiles, crushers etc,” said Amit Khatri, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gurugram.

According to the MCG officials, the plant has a capacity of 300 tonnes of debris per day, which has been provisioned to increase to 1,500 tonnes per day. Along with this, two mobile units will be installed at the Auto Market site located at Basai Road to clear debris. Each will have a capacity of disposing of the debris of 200 tonnes per day. Officials said that around 70 thousand tonnes of debris, lying at various places in the city have been collected so far.

“The civic body has already empanelled two agencies to collect debris and the process of empanelling more agencies has been started. Also, authorised vehicles of the agency will pick up debris from the house. In lieu of this, the citizens of the district have to pay according to the rates set by the MCG. Unauthorized dumping of debris is a punishable offence and is subject to heavy fines and imprisonment,” Khatri said.

The MCG has finalised 15 sites in all four municipal zones of Pataudi, Sohna, Badshahpur and Gurugram where debris can be dumped.

It is pertinent to mention here that under Section 292 (2) of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act 1994 unauthorised vehicle/ dumpers who illegally dump debris would be considered a punishable offence under Section 188, 269, 278. Along with this, action will also be taken under sections 290 and 336 of Environment Protection Act-1986 and Section 15 (1) and (2) of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act-1981. A provision of imprisonment and heavy fine has also been added in the existing law, an official added.
