Investigations into the murder of 26-year-old assistant manager with a global consultancy, Simranjeet Kaur who was stabbed to death near her aunt’s home in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh on Friday evening, have revealed that she had spoken to her husband Manveet Singh some 20 minutes before she was murdered by a killer. The killer first stabbed her in the hand and when she turned to shout for help, he stabbed her near the heart. The blow was so deep and fatal that she collapsed on the ground and died on the spot.

Investigators have rounded around 70 local criminals active in Karol Bagh area and the scope of the probe to ascertain the motive of the murder has been expanded. Sleuths are now probing the incident from two angles; whether it was a pe-planned killing by a hired killer or it was done for robbery. On the other hand, investigators are yet to talk to Simranjeet’s husband who is believed to be in Punjab. Investigators are waiting for the victim’s family and husband to return to the city.

“There is a strong possibility of contract killing and our main suspect is victim’s husband Singh but we cannot say anything without questioning him. We have sent our team to Jalandhar to monitor the activity of victim’s husband,” police sources said. Police sources said that after scanning the call detail records (CDR) of the victim, it came to fore that at 7.21 pm on Friday she called her husband Manveet Singh after reaching at Barakhamba Metro station.

“She had spoken with her husband for only 2.20 minutes as there was network problem. She told him that she was going to meet her aunt,” police sources added. Police said that the incident occurred on Friday evening when the victim Simranjeet Kaur was on her way from Noida to visit her aunt’s residence in Karol Bagh. “Around 6 pm on Friday, she boarded the Metro from Noida to Karol Bagh. At 7.31 pm on Friday, she reached at Karol Bagh Metro station and started walking,” the sources added. Investigators have seized CCTV footage from the locality and it shows a man on a scooter riding past the lane. Few minutes later, around 7.35 pm, another frame of the footage shows a well-built man, with hands in his pocket, following Simranjeet.
