Aspirants of the UGC-NET exam created ruckus at the Kirori Mal College centre, where the exam was being held on Sunday. Students had 'mistakenly noted down the wrong venue' for the exam which led to a chaos at the centre prompting the University Grants Commission (UGC) to hold the exam afresh for the affected students.
While students complained that they were unable to find their roll numbers on reaching the venue, UGC in a statement said, "Students mistakenly noted down the wrong venue for the exam."
According to the Principal of Kirori Mal College, the list of venue was uploaded by the college a week prior to the exam. However, some students, who noted the wrong venue arrived at Kirori Mal College and insisted that they be allowed to appear in the exam. "The students created a pandemonium at the college premises, forcibly entered the examination halls and snatched away examination sheets from the students, who were writing the exams," the statement said.
UGC secretary, along with the bureau head of NET exam visited the venue and assured the candidates that UGC would take appropriate decision in the matter. The commission said that considering the larger interest of the students in mind, UGC has decided to conduct exam for NET afresh for all such candidates of Delhi centres, who could not write the NET exam due to confusion of venue or disruption at Kirori Mal College. Besides, the recruitment examination for Education Officers, which was also disrupted, will be held afresh for the Delhi region. Kirori Mal College was the only Centre for the Delhi region for this exam.
