A student of South Asian University (SAU) in Chanakyapuri, who went missing since October 31, has been traced in South Delhi.
A source privy to the investigation said the student, identified as Bidhan Aryal (22), was last seen walking outside East Gate of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) around 9:30 pm, before he went missing on Monday.
The student was reportedly under depression and was undergoing a treatment. Police said before Bidhan (22) disappeared, he had made a call to his father on October 29 at night and discussed about his performance in mid-term examination and ill-health, about which he was reportedly worried.
Bidhan, a first year student of Development Economics, was staying at the university hostel in room number 702. Bidhan(22), a native of Nepal, has no relatives or contacts in Delhi, police said.
On Novemeber 1, Bidhan's roommate informed the hostel warden Yuba Raj about his disappearance. After thorough search when Bidhan could not be located, the warden informed the police and an FIR under section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) was registered at the Chanakyapuri Police Station on November 4.
According to the university doctor, Bidhan was suggested to consult a psychiatrist for further treatment and was prescribed medicines to ease sleeping.
"After he joined SAU hostel, he would rarely go out of the room. We formed student teams to search for him around the university premises. I had already contacted his parents and informed them about this," said Bidhan's roommate.
Meanwhile, the hostel warden said he had checked all the CCTV footages and also given them to police but Bidhan could not be seen in any of them. "As per his roommate on the night he disappeared, Bidhan had gone out for jogging with his friends in the evening and came back to the hostel around 7 pm. He then wore a half pant and brown coloured-striped T-shirt," the warden told police.
