'Misleading public by announcing fake schemes'

Published on:

Accusing the Kejriwal-led Delhi Government of misleading the public of Delhi by announcing “fake schemes”, Congress leader Ajay Maken said the Government has so far spent more funds on advertising the student education loan scheme than on actual benefit of the students.

He said not even a single student in Delhi has been given loan under the much-publicised scheme.

Quoting from a reply to an RTI filed by RTI activist Ved Pal, Maken said due to some fundamental flaws in the scheme, no student has even applied for loan under the same.

“First, while the Delhi Government claims that it has done away with the need for parents to act as guarantor for the purpose of the loan, it has in fact made them co-borrowers, which is even worse for them. Then why would anyone take loan under this scheme,” he asked.

He further added that under the scheme, only a loan of more than 7.5 lakh and up to 10 lakh is covered as loan of less than 7.5 lakh is covered under a similar scheme of Central Government.
