A 2012 batch IPS officer in training had a miraculous escape in an accident, though his friend, a civil services aspirant, was mowed down by a truck late on Saturday at Kashmere Gate.
Karamveer (26) was killed on the spot while Devesh Kumar Mehla escaped unhurt. The accident took place near Nepali Park when the motorcycle they were on was rammed by a speeding truck from behind.
Devesh was driving while his friend was riding pillion. "A PCR call was made by Devesh. He was going with his friend to Go's mess at Kotwali. Near the turn, a truck hit them. Devesh could not write down the truck's number," said a police official.
On Saturday, Devesh had gone to Mukherjee Nagar to meet Karamveer, who was preparing for civil services exam and wanted some notes from Devesh's laptop.
Around 11 pm, when the truck rammed them, Devesh fell with the motorcycle to one side and his friend on the other. The truck ran over Karamveer. A case of negligent driving causing death has been lodged and police are trying to identify the truck driver.
