In order to curb the mental stress among resident doctors and other students of post graduate medical courses, Resident Doctors’ Associations (RDAs) are planning to come up with a nationwide ‘Mentorship Programme’ where a mentor will be assigned to each one of them. The proposal has already been sent to the

Union Health Ministry, Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) claimed on Tuesday.

Dr Sumedh Sandhanshiv, President, FORDA said, “We sent the file to the Union Health Ministry to introduce this particular course and the ministry asked us to send the final draft of the programme which is underway.”

The final draft meeting will be held most probably on February 10 this year, he added.

According to Dr Sunil Arora, Member, FORDA, the programme will focus on giving the necessary mental intervention to the resident doctors and other students of post graduate medical courses.

“A mentor will be assigned to each resident doctor and student who can go and talk to the mentors about their workload and other reasons of their stress. They will get proper counselling by these mentors after the implementation,” said Dr Arora.

The mentors will be the doctors who have already been through the particular phase of life, he said further.

The initiative was announced by Dr Sumedh during an event at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Monday.

“The initiative ‘Mentorship Program’ focuses on improving the mental health of resident doctors and working environment. This will be organised in association with ongoing of Project ‘ASHA’,” he had said.

The Association is hoping to get it implemented before March this year, he said.
