In a shocking incident, a 29-year-old mentally-ill woman allegedly killed her eight month old son at her residence in Outer Delhi's Aman Vihar area on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. She allegedly slit the throat of her eight-month-old baby, chopped his body and was found sleeping next to it when her husband came back home, said a senior police officer, adding that she probably realised what she had done and was sleeping with the body out of guilt.
The woman had been undergoing treatment at lady Hardinge for mental health issues, police said, adding she was admitted to a hospital.
The woman had killed another son, four years ago. While neighbours claimed that the woman killed her infant son under the influence of a self styled god man, investigators said that the woman had been undergoing treatment at the psychiatry department of the lNJP hospital.
Police said that the incident was reported to them at around 2:15am. M N Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) said, “We received information about the murder of an eight month old baby boy by his mother at Prem Nagar area of Aman Vihar. The mother, identified as Sarika was also found injured alongside the body of the eight month old boy.”
The family members claim that she had earlier attempted to murder her other son as well.
Police said that after killing her eight month son, Sarika allegedly tried to stab herself. She has slit the throat of her infant son, Chirag.
At the time of the incident, Sarika's husband, Harishankar, was away at work while her two daughters, 12 year old and seven year old, were visiting their grandparents house.
Hours later, when Sarika's husband came home, he saw her and their son bleeding profusely on the floor.
He raised an alarm after which the local police rushed to the spot and took the infant and Sarika to the Sanjay Gandhi hospital.
The DCP said, “Sarika has been admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi memorial hospital and is being treated.”
We have registered a case of murder against the woman and a probe has been initiated to find out the role of the alleged godman, added police.
Police further said that Harishankar works as a vegetable seller in the local market. We will also question him whether he was aware about the communication of his wife with a self styled god man.
