A 56-year-old man, reported to be “mentally ill”, has committed suicide at his residence in Sector 52, Noida on Thursday. The deceased Surendra Singh Chauhan, an ex-manager with the Hayat Hotel in the national Capital, committed suicide by hanging himself with a cable wire as he was suffering from long-term depression. Chauhan, resident of Meerut, had left his job around five months back and was living with his wife in Noida for last six years.

According to the police, the incident was reported early on Thursday morning when Usha Chauhan, deceased’s wife, didn’t get any response even after knocking the gate from outside frequently, as she was returning from Meerut after two days. Usha also ranged Surendra’s mobile but did not get any response. After raising suspicion, she called neighbours, who later broken the gate and saw that Surendra was hanging by a wire at the gate of the bathroom. They immediately called the police and the deceased was rushed to the district hospital where he was declared brought dead. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination. No suicide note was found from his house.

The family members of the deceased said that Chauhan was mentally disturb and was being treated at a private hospital. He had conflict with his family and due to this he had resigned from his job. His son Ankur Sharma, an engineer with oil and gas firm, was living in Hyderabad and there was some dispute between father and son that may be the reason of Surendra’s depression.

“Though suicide note was not found from the spot, but we have registered a case under appropriate sections of law and have started the investigation in this regard. We are also questioning Usha Sharma and are waiting for his son,” said Vishwajeet Shrivastav, circle officer-II of Noida.
